Our day began with a bang yesterday. I had to call the hospital before 8 am to see what time we actually had to be admitted. I called at 7:15 and was informed that we needed to be here by 10. Wow! I really wasn't expecting that! So, we hit the ground running. Clothes were left in the washing machine, dirty dishes in the sink, and I didn't even have time to get the kids breakfast. Fortunately I have a wonderful sister-in-law who takes great care of my kids when I need her to! Thanks, Cindy for feeding my 4 older ones breakfast yesterday. :) Your wonderful!
We got to the hospital around 10:30. We were running a little behind. By the time all the paper work was done and we were in our room it was about 1. Then they had to draw blood, insert an NG tube, and start an IV. Let me just say that Nathaniel is going to be one tough dude when he grows up. He was swatting at the nurses, kicking, screaming, and rolling around. They seriously had their work cut out. I know it probably sounds bad but the whole time this was going on, the song that kept playing in my head was "everybody was kung fu fighting....fast as lightening. :p I know that I should have been all parental and everything. I also realize that these things had to be done. The nurses had to do their jobs (they were actually doing a superb job), but somewhere deep inside I was cheering for my boy! Anyway, long story short, the nurses won and everything was done.
By that evening, the meds that Nathaniel had to take to clean out his bowels had made him sick. Finally the dosage was adjusted and then there was no more vomiting. By then the medicine had kicked in and we were cleaning out his colostomy bag about every 10 minutes. I think all in all we got about 2 hours of sleep.
Nathaniel is in surgery now. They came and got him around 9. They gave him some medicine to make the separation a little easier. Man, that was some good stuff! By the time they wheeled him into the OR, he was laughing and could barely keep his eyes open. I wonder where that medicine was last night when he wanted to nurse and I couldn't let him. Hmmm?
I will update again later this evening after his surgery is done. Thanks for your prayers.
