Catching a Thief

We have finally moved into a house and are no longer sleeping on the floor at the business. The house we are renting, is a nice little house. There is a big fenced in back yard for the kids to play in. Even the front yard has a fence around it. There is a side walk and cement walkway to the house. The kids have had a great time roller skating. Probably one of the most exciting things about the house is that it also comes with cats. Now this is very exciting for the kids but I have to be honest and say not so much for me. :) I mean, I like having a pet just as much as the next guy, but I do have 5 kids that demand most of my attention.

Both of the cats have been spade and neutered so that is definitely a plus! The male is black and white and though skittish, he is still pretty sweet. The female is a tortoise shell color. She is very loving but has had some sort of injury to her back leg. They were both left here by the previous renters, so that is why they basically come with the house. Anyway, we have been trying to take good care of them. I have been watching the little female and noticing that she just wasn't gaining weight. I put their food out every morning. The girls even feed them again when they get home from school. So, why is this cat so skinny?

Well, this morning I decided to stay outside while the cats were eating. Shortly after I had put the cat food in the bowls, I noticed something moving in the bushes. You guessed it. One of the neighborhood cats was creeping up. It slinked its way up on the porch. Right in front of me, it chased off my cat and began to eat its food. I was a little shocked and it took me just a minute to run this cat off and coax my kitten back. I'll be on guard next time! I will make sure that our kitten actually gets to eat it's food.

I was reminded of something as I watched this episode. I was reminded that this is how the enemy works on us most of the time. He masquerades as something fluffy and cute. 2 Corinthians 11:14 says, "Satan does it all the time, dressing up as a beautiful angel of light." * If he showed his true self, we would spot him a mile away. Instead he tries to make sin look very attractive. Just when we let our guard down or are in a weakened state, he pounces!

What about you? Is there something that you have allowed in your life from the enemy? Something that at first may have seemed harmless, even cute and fluffy, or possibly beautiful? It may have even started out as something that seemed good, but now it is draining the very life out of you. That is the enemy's plan. He "comes only to steal and kill and destroy." John 10:10^ So today, "be self controlled and alert." like 1 Peter 5:8 ^ teaches us. Prayerfully consider if there is anything in your life that is spiritually starving and crippling you. Get those things out of your life. Draw close to the Father and next time the thief comes to steal from you, you'll be ready!
